To reduce NOX/PM/CO/HC/CO2 emissions and boost engine economy/efficiency/power/torque, disclosed is a novel prime-ignition system for an internal-combustion direct-injection engine, having 1) its first-fuel injected after/near piston BDC, 2) its first-fuel forming a homogenous-charge-mix with charge-air, 3) its air-fuel mixture is ignited by injection of a low-auto-ignition-temperature primer-fluid (second-injection of second-fuel) before piston TDC, 4) its first-combustion is at/near constant volume with very-high air-fuel ratio, 5) its third-fuel is injected in stages near piston TDC, which burns at/near constant volume with low air-fuel ratio, 6)it may have a fourth-fuel injection, injected after piston TDC, which burns at near-constant volume with very-low air-fuel ratio, 7) while some of its fuels may be of different kind, including alone or in combination or as a mixture of gasoline/ethanol/methanol/methane/propane/butane/hydrogen and diesel/kerosene/jet/bio fuels, and 9) its primer fuel may include ether/diethyl-ether/carbon-disulfide/dimethoxy-ethane/benzene/toulene/cumene or their combination/mixture.
